David Schrader - (soprano)

Holds a B.M. degree from the University of Arizona, and studied composition with Robert Muczynski, conducting with John Bloom and saxophone with Paris Conservatory-trained Elizabeth Thompson-Ervin. One of the founders of the San Francisco Saxophone Quartet, Mr. Schrader has composed works for choreographer Ellen Bromberg, the Henry Harris Green Dance Company and the San Jose Repertory Theatre. He is currently playing with the jazz groups Reunion Quartet and Shade and with the Volker Strifler Band (winner of 2008 Monterey Blues Festival Battle of the Bands).

Bill Aron - (alto)

Is the Quartet's only native San Franciscan, has a B.A. in Music from the University of California at Berkeley and a Master of Music in Saxophone Performance from San Francisco State University. He has studied with Donald Carroll, James Matheson and Mel Martin, and joined the Quartet in 1980. Mr. Aron taught at the University of California Jazz Ensemble and at Solano Community College in Suisun City, California. He is currently teaching at the Jazz School in Berkeley.

David Henderson - (tenor)

Was born and raised in Hartford City, Indiana. He has degrees from the University of Michigan and the Juilliard School, and a first prize in saxophone from the Conservatoire de Bordeaux, where he studied on a Fulbright-ITT grant. His saxophone teachers included William Fread, Larry Teal, Donald Sinta, Joe Allard and Jean-Marie Londeix. In 1980 Mr. Henderson gave his Carnegie Recital Hall solo debut. He has performed with the San Francisco Symphony and San Francisco Opera, plays regularly with the New World Symphony in Miami, and teaches saxophone at Stanford University and the University of the Pacific.

Kevin J. Stewart - (baritone)

Was born in Pontiac, Michigan, and has a Bachelor of Music degree in Woodwind Performance from the University of Michigan. He studied saxophone with Judy Peters, Laura Hunter and Donald Sinta. Mr. Stewart has appeared as soloist with the J.C. Heard Quartet, Warren Symphony, Southfield Symphony, Detroit Civic Symphony Orchestra, Renaissance Chamber Orchestra and New American Chamber Orchestra, and has performed with the Flint Symphony and Detroit Opera Theater Orchestra. He is currently teaching saxophone at Dominican University in San Rafael, California.
